Bartering is not a thing. The price is the price. If you are buying Costa Rica t-shirts for your 8 nieces and nephews and are willing to pay cash, it would be appropriate to ask about a discount. If you are buying necklaces or colorful bird-shaped whistles from peddlers on the beach, it is all right to discuss the price.
In 2006, the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia received an injunction preventing the Costa Rican company Café Britt from selling t-shirts with the slogan. Fedecafé then filed a $1 million lawsuit on July 7, 2006,[3] after Café Britt refused to sign a contract, stating that it must respect the intellectual property of Fedecafé and refrain from using either the name or image of Juan Valdez. Café Britt filed a $200,000 counter-suit, after producing an affidavit from a Costa Rican man, Juan Valdez, certifying that he does drink Costa Rican coffee. Café Britt also argued that the phrase is so common as to be ineligible for legal protection.[4][5]
Some plans will provide up to $500 per person for baggage and personal effects loss. This may be perfectly adequate for you if your belongings are primarily shoes and T-shirts. The most robust policies, such as the Platinum plan from AXA Assistance USA, provide up to $3,000 per person.
Choose T-shirts made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that will help keep you cool and dry during your adventures. Consider bringing a mix of short and long-sleeved T-shirts to accommodate changing weather conditions, especially if you plan to explore higher elevations or spend time in the rainforest where it can get cooler.
Neutral colors and simple designs are versatile and easy to mix and match with other travel gear. When we come to Costa Rica, we usually wear T-shirts and tank tops from our favourite sustainable brand, prAna.
